for a potentially lengthy process however when he realized that the prosecution was seeking the death penalty he decided to make a deal with the investigation he would admit guilt in exchange for avoiding the death penalty he pleaded guilty to the murder of Megan and was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole however he later claimed that he had only made the deal under pressure and demanded a retrial when the judge granted his request the man quickly returned to his original decision to plead guilty as the death
